Post subject: | T4 Front ECS Question |
I installed the XRay 50mm ECS with the metal front outdrives to reduce the chattering caused by the front spool. I have read that others also recommend covering the dual joints with heat shrink tubing. Is this the hot tip? |

A lot of us have used the heatshrink on the ECS's, it helps stop muck from getting into the joint. Just remember to take the heatshrink off regularly and re-grease the joints. |

It was the hot tip way back when to help stop the pins coming out. Personally I tried it and still had a failure and stopped using it (although I do currently have heat shrink on). I do think though that the comment about stopping the crud getting in is a fair one. To my mind the key is meticulous preparation when rebuilding – make sure everything is thoroughly clean including screw hole threads. I use Loctite 7063 cleaner on the threads and the grub screws – although I normally use new screws every time. And a small dab of Loctite 243 on the grub screw thread and tip. |
