Post subject: | Over heating the tyres!! |
Hi, I run sorex 28's Jb on a fairly small tight and twisty carpet track. The car is great at the beginning of the meeting but I find that as the track rubbers in the tyres start to go off slightly and start over heating nearer the end of a race. I only have the additive on for around 15 mins and dont use tyre warmers. I was wondering what kind of changes I could make to the car throughout the meeting to prevent the tyres from over heating nearer the end of a race. I am using the thinner top deck which I thought would help with this as the extra flex would mean the tyres were used less? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated! |

Normally the more flexible topdeck will prevent tire overheating, correct. Would you mind posting your entire set-up sheet? That way it would be easier to help you. Do you think it's mainly the front or the rear tires which are overheating? If it's the front tires, then the car needs more steering overall so you can achieve the same corner speed with less steering lock, to preserve the front tires. If it's the rear tires that are overheating, the car is sliding around too much. |

Silly question, but I understand that by the term "tyre overheating" you mean that you have reached the maximum threshold of tyre temperature that the tyre does not handle as it is sypposed to handle. Can you please define which is the max temperature that the term "tyre overheating" reffers to? Thank you in advanced. |

That will depend on the tyres (and the carpet) I usually see around 35degC on a tyre after a 5m run on carpet. What you don't want to see is a large difference in temperature front to rear (a few degC is OK) |
