When setting the car up i.e fully set up. My shock collars are different left to right over 1 mm. Is this normal or does it mean something is out?

Thanks

Do you mean that the preload is a lot different left to right?

If there is nothing obviously wrong with the suspension or chassis then you can live with an 0.5 difference in preload on the shock collars. This is required to set the correct tweak sometimes.

One of the aspects I have learned over time is that if you are working with an older chassis, especially at the front, then if you set the ride height individually on each side, then the wear and warping can/will lead you to differences on the shock collar positions (and tweak) because whilst thinking you are setting the same ride height on both sides, you are not.

When I setup the '009 I just slide the ride height measure down the chassis centre line and use that measurement. With the '012 I still measure both sides. But no doubt will stop sometime this coming season
This is more relevant to regular asphalt racing with high apexes.
