I've had a T3 12 for 2 meets now and am happy with it but seem to suffer from over rotation out of hairpins on low grip carpet, which has caused a few big crashes. Bought the car of an ex maritime regular and thought his set up may suit our small track. It was set up more like the kit asphalt setup than carpet only differences being 2.5 rear toe 0 front toe and roll centre position 1. Rear.

I tried
Higher rear down stop 5.5
3 toe in rear (better straight line stability)
2 front camber (no real change, bit of push maybe)
2 rear camber (no change)
2k rear diff oil(no change)
1.6mm top deck (no change)
Shock position 2 rear ( better)
Shock position 1 rear (much more controllable)
No front additive (best so far but still rotating more than all other cars in heat)

Question is if you we're driving to kit setup and suffered over rotation what would be the first change? Set up book says increase down stops but can't see why?

Did you buy it to run at Maritime?

No I'm up in Cheshire, bought it as just couldn't keep up with my T2 009 anymore. Car is definitely quicker and generates more grip, would just like to increase the rear grip on power out of slow corners

What springs and oil?

Don't be afraid to stand the shocks up more as well.

Have you checked front track width, wheel base and ackermann settings - are they kit? I ask because I changed these to get more rotation on my '009 (tight tarmac); although not on my 012.

What is the steering epa on your inside wheel?

Motor wind?

Skiddins springs are 3 front 2.6 rear, did try 2.8 front but lost some initial steering. The only improvements I had was by laying the rear shocks down and no additive on front, do you still think standing them up could help?

Yellowshark its 13.5T with mild boost 7.6 fdr (just writing this made me think its low geared and is possibly adding to the problem?)
Not sure what you mean by inside wheel EPA, couldn't reduce steering any more though as there is always a tight 'S' that slows me down too much

Have a look at some of my T3'12 setups here;

Too tight rear belt to loose front belt will cause an on power over rotation feel!

I did actually think the rear belt was a little tight when I got it but it is in kit position so left it, I will try 1 notch looser and see how it feels. Front belt seems fine compared to a new belt on my T2 009.

Post subject:  Re: Over rotation

I grab my front belt by finger and thumb and roll it forward over the spool. If it just about “rolls off” the spool then that’s right for me; if it comes off easily it is too loose, if it is absolutely nailed to the spool teeth, it is too tight. I set my rear belt to a similar tension.

Steering EPA is the maximum no. of degrees your front wheels will turn on full lock – measured on the inside wheel; you do need a setup station to measure this. Irrespective of your slow corner needs, if you have too much then that could be causing your problem.

I think I would
• Add a bit more droop to the front
• Move the front shock upper position to 4 or 5
• Do not know what you have available but try a softer and harder rear anti roll bar (the book suggests softer but that could be wrong, it depends on what is actually happening ie you could be rolling too much).

Yup your gearing does look a bit low; could be inducing some wheel spin maybe; worth adding a couple of teeth to the pinion to see.

I am unable to add more than 6 droop front as it lowers the car? Is there a problem or is that normal ?
I do have a selection of ARB's so will try standing the shocks up and different bars also change the gearing slightly next time out problem is generally only get 10 mins after marshalling for next heat

You should try more rear downstop, probably around 4.6 to transfer more weight to your rear wheels on-power (out of corners, for example, hairpin corners).
