When I built mine I put some oil on the seal itself.

Having cleaned up after the build was finished I have now run it for about 6 meetings withot refilling.

I bulit mine as per kit and correctly and leaked like hell

Built it again with a new O-ring and it still leaked.

Gone back to ball diff which don't leak and runs better on out tight track anyway.
:D

I had this issue when I first built the gear diff. The issue is most likely when you are building the diff the large thin O-ring is folding on itself when you put the sides together. I now put the O-ring on the opposite half of the pully assembly from what the instructions say, and it is much easier to seat the O-ring properly when you snap the two sides together.

With my 2nd gear diff, I lightly sanded the pully sides very gently with 600 grit sandpaper to make sure both sides wear completely flat, put the O-ring in as I described, and it has never leaked even with 700 cst. I also sanded the back of the bevel gears very gently and it is still smooth as silk with no leaks after about 2+ months.

BTW .. if you ever dissasemble it, you will need a new O-ring as they swell considerably and you will never be able to get a good seal. Always install a new one.
