Out of interest:
1. Does anyone try using the adjustable piston shocks?
2. Do they lead to inconsistent shocks vis a vis against fixed piston shocks

I only ask this coz given that it seems to be an extra adjustment why don't so many people use them?

And for you Damian - hello

Im using adjustable pistions
they are rgeat and you have got siplier way to change "hardness" of your shock
2.I dont understand this question

Maybe because they dont know how to use them and they dont have any knowladge about that

I used to run adjustable pistons but no longer do so.
Three reasons:
1) I find they restrict the overall length of the shock unless the "clicker" sits in the adjusting groove
2) a couple of times I've accidently adjusted the # of piston holes when putting the shock on the car and not noticed till I go to rebuild them and
3) I've had two of the adjustable pistons break inside the shock.

But thats me :)
Cheers
Andrew

Now you see disadvantages so I have to mention also advantages :D

Drivers have to often change shock oil depending on surface or traction, sometimes, drivers have to change the oil even 3 times a day when the traction is increasing. With adjustable pistons, you do not need to do it. The only thing you need to do is take out the shock and close one hole. Simple and quick.

To be honest number of holes and the shock oil are not the 100% same on handling, but the average driver can not feel the difference.

I have to say that I, too, like the adjustable pistons. Once mounted they won't change their setting when not running with a "rally cross style" downstop setup.

Just out of interest: Let's say that 2 holes 300cps and 3 holes 200cps would perform the same (hypothetical) at a certain piston's speed. Then the difference between holes and oils will come with different piston's speeds and positions and also influencing the rebound working. Is this correct?

Now you guys have got me thinking. We used the adjustable shocks for ages but 18 months ago swapped to the alu shocks. A quick back to back test, but not exhaustive, suggested the handling was improved and lap times a bit quicker(0.2ish). But boy I really do miss the adjustability during race meetings. I told myself I would travel with some prebuilt spare ALU shocks with different settings but never did.
Although others, elsewhere, have posted issues with them “adjusting” themselves in-flight, that never happened to us.

Yellowshark, you went faster with alu because you probably got more traction. The reason is that pistons in alu shock have diameter 1.1 and in plastic it is 1.0 so with 1.1 you get more traction. If you are serious racer, it should be no problem to change oil several times a day :D

Oh alright Martin, you just want me to buy some spare alu shocks don't you :D
Seriously, I always felt/understood that opening or closing a hole was a finer ajustment than going up/down 50 in oil weight. Is that a fair comment?

At the end of the day we cannot afford to throw away 0.2sec or whatever so it is alu shocks for us. I bet you would sell a lot of adjustable alu shocks.

I agree

The idea was to have normal plastic shock that can be adjustable for standard racers and for those who drive in high competition, aluminum ones. And 90% of high competition drivers wanted only fixed pistons. Therefore we made only those.
