I'm just wondering why we don't see the -0.75 hexes being used much in the euro team's setups? Are there any downsides to using them that I'm not aware of? The reason I ask is that the narrow hexes have become a fairly standard setup for us here in oz on our admittedly low-med grip asphalt tracks. As an example, on my home track (www.smaracing.org) the narrow hexes are 3/10ths quicker in mod. |

Can you explain how/why narrower car has better grip compared to wider?! |

I have tested a lot with narrower and wider hexes. Normally if I go wider at the front (+0.5 - +0.75) I will have more mid corner steering as the car tend to drive more "round". With the narrower front hex the car will have more initial steering but will also stop more in the corner and thus have less corner speed. At the rear it is usually a problem to go narrower than standard since the wheel might hit the grub screw of the hub. But the benefit of this is normally a little more on-power steering. |
