Can anyone give me opinion on what oil weight to use with a geared diff. I tried a gear diff this week in the finals as my ball diff started slipping. And friend let my use his geared diff to the rear. The diff had 1000wt oil and I found that the car was great going into and trought the in field but when getting on power out of faster corner the back of the car was trying to kick out(oversteer) and this made the car hard to drive. Will 2000 wt oil make the car have more traction to stop this and what would be a good starting oil for a front gear diff. All opinion welcome. Matt |

It seems to depened on the surface you are running on. Most people running on asphalt tend to settle around 1000 and 2000 for carpet. Aside from that, I know that most people need some time to adjust to how the gear diff feels compared to the standard ball diff. |

On Carpet I found 1000 to difficult to drive coming onto power with a boosted ESC, as when the boost hit when you werent quite straight the rear would become tail happy. Where as 2000 is great. Thats Fastrax 2000cst. I expect 1000 will be better outdoors as its more smooth and progressive on throttle, so theres less chance of it being tail happy |

i am not suprised your gear diff leaked with 50 oil in it rhis is way too thin for a gear diff minimum i would use is 1000 but i have seen guys with 800 in and leaking a little mine has never leaked and it has been opened at least 5 times with the same gasket used ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have been running high quality lithium grease with teflon. Its around 120cst, easy to drive and very consistent. It can be found in bicycle shops, make sure you get one in a tube, not aerosol bottle. |

I would suggest: low traction - 700 medium traction - 800-900 high traction - 1000 |
