I opened my gear diff before racing today.
Unfortunately the o-ring got too big to put it back in. Since I had no spare one I cutted a part out of it. I didnt glue it back together so it is only a o-line. Put it back together and it leaked a little bit at the beginning but stop after 1-2 runs.

Surprisingly for me but this means the o-ring was not sitting good last time but seems not to be 100% needed to have a good sealed gear diff.

Yup I am not convinced that small o-ring is a great piece of design. After 1st run we dis-assembled the diff as it was leaking and found that the ring was sliced - presumably one of the screws had nipped it on assembley which would be my fault but poor design. And 2nd time like you the ring was too big to fit back. I think one of the guys at my club has given up on the o-ring and runs without it.

I've looked everywhere online but all I've found is conflicting answers. Does thicker oil in a geardiff at the rear make the car rotate less and give you more grip out of the corner or the opposite

I am thinking the former because I read something somewhere that made me change from 1000cst to 2000cst to try and settle the rear end but have not tried it yet as I put the ball diff back in.

Had to replace the Gear Diff from the T3 2012 because it leaked out of the Box.
Sure, thats just bad luck. But disappointed that i had to pay for it....

Does anybody have any pictures of their diff filled with cleaning putty? Not really sure how much to use and where to place it.

Mine too.

Build a second one for my friend.
Put the right amount of oil in. Had too much the first time I build mine.
Kept the gasket dry. At my first build I got some oil on it by incident.
Put some oil on the o-ring and kept very close attention that it sits correct.

Result: Diff running without leaking!
Conclusion: Just keep some attention while building and it works perfect.
