Hi,

Looking at trying Martin's low traction asphalt set up. My local track is quite bumby so we normally run 6-6.3mm ride height. On his set up sheet he has his ride height at 5mm front and back, if I set the droop to 5.8 front and 4.6 rear but my ride height at 6mm all round will I need to adjust my droop ? if so to what ?

and once grip starts to increase what should I change first from the low traction set up ?

Thanks.

Hi SAW,

Yes you will, as a rule of thumb increase the droop (ie reduce the downstop settings) by the amount you have increased the ride height. I say rule of thumb as I am sure I read something somewhere back in the mysts of time that the relationship between the two is not actually linear, but is is at small measurements of .25mm/.5mm
Personally I would set my car up as per the sheet to be copied and measure the droop/uplift thta it gives and then check that the desired settings on MY car deliver the same uplift.

Don't forget though that a 1mm increase in ride height is going to change the handling of a car so arguably you do not want to copy everything 100%. I would be be inclined to increase your droop by 0.5 to 0.75mm rather than the full 1mm
- make some comparsons with different droop settings

What to change first? Well no right or wrong to this one methinks; I suspect personal taste comes into it. I will probably look at shock absorber inclination and roll bars first as they are quick precise changes to make if you do not have much time. If you are good at making small changes to downstops in situ then that too but I am not!!

Thankyou.

So when you say increase droop you mean higher number on the gauge eg. 6.5 on the front or go the other way say to 5 on the gauge ? sorry I get confused on droop, higher number means less droop right ? :|

Which track do you run at?

Depending on how bumpy the track is you might want to run the car quite stiff so it skips over the bumps instead of trying to make the wheels keep permanent contact.

On the 'Basic Set-up for rubber tyres' the wheelbase is showing a X in the front 0 box does this mean both shims are at the back of the arm ?

and is there suppose to be a 1.5mm shim at the rear roll centre on the front ?

Thanks.
