I;m sure this is on another post but:

Diff-tire w/ the least amount of traction gets the power(inside)=less on-power steering and smooth braking.

Spool-both tires get equal power. Both tires spin at same rate=twice the braking of a diff, and better acceleration, slower corner speeds, less turn-in.

One-way-both tires get equal power. Each tire spins at it's own rate=zero usable braking(will spin out if you brake), better acceleration than diff, same as spool, faster corner speeds, more turn-in.

Diff-easy to drive-best for carpet
Spool-hardest to drive, tight asphalt tracks, will break many cvd's if your a rookie
One-way-difficult to drive, flowing high traction tracks, will break more cvd's than diff,

Carpet: Diff or One-way
Asphalt: One-way or Spool

Personally, I prefer the one-way in almost every circumstance (even foam tires on carpet) unless there's almost no rear traction. On asphalt, I use the one way exclusively, but might try a diff to see if there isn't an improvement (hard braking can be tricky w/ the one way, but if your car isn't tweaked it's not so bad. :D ) As for a spool, you'll definitely see more wear in your CVDs and front tires, and turn in will be diminshed. I used to drive a Serpent Impulse with a spool, and it was very easy to drive; the problem I had was having to slow down too much to enter a turn.

Diff has reasonable overall steering.

One-way has more turn-in and increased traction when accelerating out of the corner allowing you to carry more speed out of the corner. However braking is difficult as only the rear wheels will be used to decelerate.

The spool works exactly the same as a one-way on corner exit, but has much less turn-in than both the one-way and the diff. But like the diff with a spool you can brake hard into the corner as all four wheels will contribute to the deceleration.

With rubber tyres a one-way is almost allways faster. The exceptions are when grip is very low and when a track requires hard braking for some corners (like the end of the traight at the Worlds).

With foam tyres a one-way can give too much turn-in making the car very difficult to drive consistently. Therefore the team drivers usually run a spool with foam tyres, especially indoors. Outdoors a diff maybe better overall and possibly a one-way can be used.

Hi
i tried a one way at carpet masters and found that it seemed to carry on steering out of the corner as if the car wanted to continue on its arc even coming out of the corner

the track is grippy and reasonably tight its a control rubber tire and i realy want to try and get the one way to work any ideas how i could stop this problem

Chipmunk,

I suggest you try running a little more droop (less downstop). Running more droop at the front will allow more weight to be transferred to the rear under acceleration increasing rear traction. Try this first. If it doesn't help enough you can also run more droop at the rear as well. While this will make the car turn in more aggressively it will also allow the rear to have more chassis roll once again increasing rear traction under acceleration.
