Actually there is a second thought that goes with it. Even with exceptionally well matched cells like for instance the Orion ones there will be slight differences. If you don't equalize the cells between runs you will start from an even more uneven starting point with each consecutive charge. I.e. the first charge pack is great, 2nd charge slightly less (unevene start means some cells are over- and some undercharged), 3rd charge even less (even more unequal starting point) and so on. Equalizing the packs will prevent this effect.

Someone indicated that NiMH cells don't have a memory effect like the NiCads hed, this is true. But equalizing the packs is not done to prevent a memory effect! It is done to equalize the cells to take full advantage of the matched cells. Discharging all the way to zero (dead shorting) is not recommended by most companies and personally I don't see any advantage here. The reason dead shorting was good for NiCads is that this technique DOES prevent the memory effect. Since NiMHs don't suffer from this effect it is sufficient to equalize them.

so would you agree with equlizing the cells after each run so they are always equal amounts or will it damage the cells if done too much

Well guys thanks for all the replys, I got my 3 trinity trays today, and another battery, lol never can have enough of them, i am going to be deep discharging them on the trays, and also tray them in between runs, i appreciate all the help, and sorry if i ruffled any feathers. merry christmas all.
