I have found for me the diff is more consistent and just plain faster for me. A couple of my friends run the spool and say it should be a good bit faster at our track. What kind of setup characteristics do I look for on my car to get the spool to be as smooth and have great turn-in the way my diff does? Would droop be the major factor or roll center give me as many knowledgeable ideas as you can.

droop will help, softer front spring, lengthen the wheelbase, add rake ( have the back end higher than the front end ) all of these things will help the car turn in. I use a spool, but most of the guys at my local track prefer the diff for the same reasons you stated. A spool has a more direct feel to it than a dif does. A diff to me feels lazy. This is of course, my personal opinion. I have found, wheelbase, droop and front spring have helped my spool turn in the most.

Thanks for your response yeah I have a couple setup variations online. I am looking for thoughts from others to bounce off of my own theories on how to get the spool to be better for me. I primarily race on asphalt medium traction, on rubber. I am not really looking for setups but for ideas on what changes are likely to give the results I want. Cory is always a great help just looking for the most input I can get.

thansk for the probs rodney. A little mroe info, to help answer your question. A spool will never " feel " as smooth as a diff, because of its nature and the way it works. The diff tends to subdue vibrations, and any directness that a spool will give you. This doesnt mean that a spool is really causing the car to act one way or the other ( other than what it helps the car do ) its just transfering the cars natural tendancies to the wheel. The diff is kind of a drivetrain shock obsorber in a way .
