I just CA-glued four new Sorex 36R rubber tires on a set of new rims. When I put my car on the car stand and I give full throttle I noticed quite a bit of vibration in one of the wheels.

What I would like to know is: is it common practice to balance wheels and if so, what tools/tape are needed to do the job.

What car have you?

I have a T1R the same problem occured on my car about a year ago, can't remember exactly what I did but it turned out to be a loose part or screw

Hope this helps

If I mount the wheels at a different wheel location on the car, always the same wheel starts to vibrate at high rpm, so there must be a small unbalance in that wheel.

What I would like to know is whether this vibrating will result in less grip and if it is good practice to always balance your wheels.

Sounds as though you have trapped the insert somewhere and it cannot move as the rotation speed is increasing.

Sander it is not common practice to balance the wheels but there are some companies that offer wheel balancing tools. Cannot think of any names right now but hopefully some of the other readers can.

BTW, littleal is probably right. What sometimes happens is that the inserts gets stuck to the wheel when gluing the rubber to the wheel. When that happens the tyre won't operate at maximum grip levels even if you do balance it. I suggest you check first that the insert is not stuck.

Like said, wheel balancing is not common practice. Another thing to check for is your drivetrain. A bent CV bone or some play in the drivetrain will cause such vibrations.

Wheel balancing is not much of an issue on RCs since they have a relatively small MOI. But if you're the fastest guy in the world, it wouldn't hurt to balance that wheel to gain a very insignificant edge.

I would think it must be a wheel/insert problem, because unless I am misreading previous posts, he can move the vibration round the car when he moves wheels.
