Hello everyone,
I am running my Xray T4 for about 4 months now. I am really happy with the quality of the car. It is very well designed, machined and it is build like a tank.
At first I drove the car on carpet at my local track. The car was unstable in the beginning but I managed to make it drivable by changing some settings and treating my tires with the LRP additive. However, I am convinced that I am not fully using my tires. I'll explain why. I borrowed very old tires form a racer at this track and with those tires my car was very planted and I consistently felt the grip. Those tires were team powers 26 or 28 R, I don't remember and they were treated with the same LRP carpet additive. When I was driving the car with my new tires, it was excellent for about 1 or 2 laps (on a very small carpet track), after that it was very difficult to drive because I felt I lost all grip. I run VOLANTE 28R tires. Before the run I clean the tires by applying lighter fluid on them and then I put the additive. I wait 30m to an hour before I put the car on the track. Sometimes I put the additive a day before I drive. Always the same thing. I get good grip for about 2 laps and that's it. Right now I am far from the carpet track and I was doing some testing on asphalt with the same tires. I never felt the grip this time, not even in the beginning of the run. However, this time I drove the car on a very dusty parking lot so less grip is understandable. The car accelerates and stops in a straight line but I never felt that "bite" as I did with the old used tires of the driver at my local carpet track. No grip while cornering too. I tried different settings, droop, different springs, lowered the roll center and so on with no success. It is worth mentioning that I used WD40 in the very beginning to clean the tires. I also noticed that on carpet the tires are warming up quite easily while on asphalt they are stone cold after every run even in hot conditions.
I am running out of ideas. I tried everything except tire warmers. However, I heard that they are not super important on carpet at least. I am sorry for the long story but I felt it was necessary to explain in detail what I did so far. So I was wondering how do you guys treat your tires? Did you have similar problems as me when you began perfecting your car? Do the Volante tires just *** :-) ***? Or maybe I somehow ruined my tires by using the WD40? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
