A photograph would be appreciated! That is unbelievable.

Maybe the bell distorts when it gets hot as the coefficient of expansion of aluminium is much higher than steel. (which is the reason why we heat the engine in the oven to remove the steel bearing easily). There is something not quite right here. The top drivers at our club has fitted an alu bell so I will be watching with interest to see how he gets on. I will let the forum know. We will be using a steel bell as I have grave reservations about the alu bell.

If ran the aluminum bell 2 times. Both for qualifier runs. Seems to me that a harder clutch shoe would be better when using it, as it did have more wear on the yellow shoe than I would have expected

Thanks for the photographs. The fact that the bell broke near the hole, which is obviously the weakest part of the component, could indicate that it simply exploded. Because of the position of the bell it is unlikely to get damaged as it's protected by the gearing/flywheel. Strange????
