Post subject:  Belt Tension?

Hello,
I have a few questions about the belt tension.
How do you determine the tension of the belts?
Do you prefer a loose or a tight setting?
What are you doing this depend on?

Regards
MKAH

Loose belts make the drivetrain freer/smoother. With loose belts your car will run off throttle (coast) longer. I also feel loose belts last longer and that less dirt gets trapped in the pulleys.

How loose? Just enough so when you press down on a belt it is soft and moves about half way towards the other side of the belt. If you can push the top of the belt down to touch the other side of the belt it usually is too loose. The exception is the side belt which you want to just be a little tight to get over and off the side bearing guide.

At an Xray Challenge race I was able to touch the belts of the pros and none were tight or firm, they were moderately loose.
