Post subject:  NT1 Clutch Setup

Hi,
I tried to install standard clutch on the 353 09 engine, using the 7mm flywheel collar for novarossi engine. The problem is that the distance from the top of the flywheel nut until the end of the crankshaft is only 9.0mm instead of 9.2+0.1mm, although I screwed the flywheel nut very tight.

Please advise. Thank you.

Hi,

I would like to know whether or not this kind of problem (9.0mm just achieved although using 7mm flywheel collar for novarossi and flywheel nut screwed very tight, almost overtight) faced by somebody who using novarossi engine. Is It normal? However, 0.7mm clutch gap is just achieved and no more margin (no shim added in front of the thrust bearing). Please advise. 10Q.

If you did follow the link you will see it is a known problem which simpel to solve. If you do look the gap between engine and flywheel and do see some space made by the cone you just can grind off those 0.2mm you want to have from the backside of the cone if the 0.2mm does not exceed the space, the collar still have to stick out the flywheel a tiny bit.

Otherwise you can fill up the space between shaft and end tip with 3x5mm shims as mentioned in that topic.

But you say you have 0.7mm gap, that is enough and there is no need to change the 9.0mm to 9.2mm

In the Set-up book, page 24, it says that the distance from the flywheel nut to the end of the crankshaft should be 9.0mm + 0.1mm or - 0.1mm so you are in tolerance. Also, as Roelof said, you have 0.7mm gap so you don't need to worry. I wouldn't want to run more than 0.7mm - infact I prefer 0.5mm to 0.6mm.

True is Delboy.

Nevre gone over 0,7mm on my clutch adjustment. Rather I stay on 0,5mm. Much smoother feeling and easier to drive along high speed corners.

is the same story with nova 353 10? Or just 09?

The procedure and measurements for clutch set-up are the same irrespective of the make of engine. I suggest you follow the Xray manual and you won't go wrong.
