Post subject:  One Piece engine Mount

Good night Xray guys, I have just purchased a One-piece mount but after running in two 5 minute qualifiers my I stripped my gears twice in 3 minutes. I am very sure it was not a matter of gear mesh as I have not blown any gears in some months now.

After a terrible day filled with expensive stripping gears, I called it a day what I notice the bolts on the engine mount were loose eventhough they was tread lock but on further investigation I realised the brand new engine mount was the real cause as there was a break in the mount. Has the quality I have come to know from Xray changed ?? How can I get this issue rectified ??

Or is this type of breakage normal ?

It seems unlikely that that is the cause of a loose engine stripping gears.

Roelof can you suggest something to use on those screws because I have been using the same brand loctite on those screws on my NT1 for 3yrs now and never had those screws come out but when I installed the One piece it came out twice in each 5 minute qualifiers.

I am using Associated threadlock, also use it on my truck and no screws fall out.

i never use thread lock on the engine mount screws and have never lost one
i agree the crack wont alter mesh, but had the bolts been loose it would and thats not a quality issue of xrays concern!

On the engine I just use standard steel M3 hex screws and to mount the engine mount on the chassis I use torx screws.

I do not know why they come loose maybe you have to find out if the chassis or mount is slightly bend which does give strainge forces.

Probably your chassis or engine mount isn't absolutely flat.
This puts tension on the mount which caused it to crack at it weakest point.
The bended mount or chassis also causes your screws to unwind, when the car hits a bump and the chassis flexes tension is relieved from the screws and they will unwind because of the vibrations from the engine.

I have seen several one-piece mounts which cracked at the same spot as yours.

Thanks guys I will give the chassis a check, just as DS describes it, the problem only occurs after I am rear ended the screws loosen up and gear strips.

I will be rebuilding everything tomorrow with a new chassis.
