hi, I'm Mark from the Netherlands and I've been driving Xray since the first one was in the shops, the xray T1. sold that a year ago and I'm currently running a FK04 and planning to buy the new T2 when its available. I'm currently studying Mechanical Engineering, first year. I've always been interested in mechanical things and the perfect hobby is RC for me! I've always had a critical look on mechanic devices and now I'm thinking of ways to improve the new T2 concept even further... What I've seen happening in design of modern RC-cars are 2 things, lowering the CG and more and more Flex-things. for the first problem there are a few things done and not done yet. now, the T2 has a very low CG due to the low upper deck and low bulkheads but there are still some things reaching high in the air. a short list, Tyres, cant do anything about that ![]() Spur, maybe smaller with a different internal ratio but considering the weight of this part it isn't a big deal, efficiency would be better also then we got the body, nothing to do about and the Shocks... shocks... they are high, and filled with oil at the top, a bit strange when you want to get an as low as possible CG. I've been thinking how to change this system in such a way that it is still very adaptable and yet a hell of a lot lower. actually i got a couple of ideas to get these dampers down, as low as possible but i don't think i can just simply describe it... maybe i can make some drawings... maybe somebody of research and design could do a little bit of a chat with me? try mounting them upsidedown but then you have more unsprung weight! |

that's not really what i was thinking of, because that makes every movement of the lower suspension arm more difficult because of the added weight, i haven't tried it yet but i dont think it will be that better to drive...it could feel like a higher number of oil... Mark |

yeah but that changes a lot of the driving characteristics... a 1:8 nitro does drive completely different compared with a touring 1:10 electric. the thing i was thinking of something similar of shape like the rear body stabilisers of the serpent above , mount them upside down, a little bit smaller and from spring steel Just above the lower suspension arm... ball bearing at the end, and a little metal plate on top of the lower suspension arm for smooth performance. this really lowers the springs. you can vary the ride-height by changing the height of these flat springs and if you could find a way to change the angle of these flat springs you could alter something similar to the upper shock mount and if you change the position of the place the bearing at the end of the flat spring touches the lower suspension arm you could change a similar setting like the lower shock mount on the lower suspension arm... the only problem for this system is where to put the shock-body with the dampening function of these shocks, I'm still thinking of ways how to solve this but for now, these flat springs could just be the key to get a even lower CG...
