Post subject:  Star-Box starter box queries

Looking to order one of the 8th off-road starter boxes, but got a couple of queries regarding li-po packs to use with it.

Is there a recommended spec for the li-po packs, or indeed a point at which too high a spec might damage the box? I know more mah just means longer between charges but has anyone tested how long a pack of a particular rating will last?

Question about the optional li-po adaptors - these have the wires at 90 degrees to the plugs. Is that because there isn't room inside the starter box for standard straight plugs to clear the interior of the box? Just want to check as some packs I'm looking at come with connectors so don't want to order them if I don't need them. Not a fan of Tamiya style plugs either, so will need to rewire with mini-Deans in any case!

Thanks for any help

Adrian

A LiPo with more capacity does not hurt the box, it will only give you a longer time of use before recharging it. There are no needed specs only that they are 2S (7.4v) and strong enough, a 2Ah-10C battery will be to weak but most batteries today are at least 3000mAh with 25C and that will do.

The adapters I think has to do that the box is using Tamiya plugs and most racing LiPo's have 4mm female banana plugs so a converter-plug is needed.
If you do a search you will find Tamiya type LiPo stickpacks with rounded edges and a Tamiya plug making a direct fit in the place of the NiMh packs.

Be sure you do charge the packs with a LiPo charger....
