Post subject: | M18T Drive Train Problems! Pls Help |
Hi all I have a m18t rtr that i have started upgrading. so far i have; novak mongoose 8.5 brushless alloy xray motor mount hudy drive shafts 2s lipo 13T metal pinion. I got all the gear into the m18t and it looks fast but it seems to make the diffs slip non stop. first i stripped the rear gear box pinion so i removed everything for inspection. the pinion is stripped and the diff has melted around the metal plates that push agaist the balls. I removed the front diff and it looked fine so i put the front diff and pinion in the rear and attempt to drive it. it started slipping straight away so i tightened it up fairly damn tight and went for another go. it went awesome for about 30secs then started slipping again. i think the screw keeps loosening maybe? -what would have cause the gearbox pinion to strip? how do i fix it? -are there alloy gearbox pinions avail? -why do the diffs keep getting loose? -is slipping causing the melting of the diffs? -do i fix this by making them tighter? thankyou all. hopefully i only need 1 new gearbox pinion. 1 new plastic teeth part that goes on the diff that holds the balls as it had melted on the rear diff. i wish i could get all metal diff, metall pinion etc...!! thanks! |

Yes, if your diff was too lose, that heat transfer from the main gear unto the drive gear could start to warp it so it could strip easier. You can have a diff too tight, and put flat spots in your diff balls. The best idea is to break in your diffs slowly, and realize with a more powerful motor since you jumped from a 370 to a brushless 380, you would have needed to tighten the diffs even more than they were. |
