Post subject: | Do It Yourself (M18 6-cell side-by-side chassis) |
hello guys! I have always wanted to have a chassis that would combine the advantages of the factory Xray carbon chassis (convenient motor mount) and Motek (6-cell side-by-side, narrow build), but I could not find one, so I decided to manufacture it myself. Below I`m posting the thumbnails to some pictures showing the result. I apologize for the quality of the pictures, but I had little time to take them. My chassis is narrower than Xray`s - in fact it could be as narrow as the one from Motek, but I did not want it to be so delicate and vulnerable, so I cut it a bit wider. It is also quite a bit longer than both Xray and Motek - it is about 8 mm longer than the factory chassis. At first when I put all the parts together I laughed a lot - the model when put next to my other model looked like a school bus Longer chassis will surely have a great influence on the model`s handling. I built it to be used on out-door tracks so I am not affraid of decreased manouverability/steering response (which is not an unavoidable problem, I think) - I hope to gain an increased stability on straights and smoother cornering. I haven`t driven it yet - the first competitions I`m going to use it in will take place on 26/27 Aug. Apart from cutting a longer lower chassis I also had to make a new upper deck, battery strap and carbon drive shaft. Thanks to a longer chassis I also have more room for all the electronics.
