Rebuilding micro's is becoming a hobby of me. I already made an EXO look-a-like chassis for the HPI Mirco and did set a speedrecord in Holland with it powered by a 480bb-race on 12 cels, the speed was 96 km/h Now for the several upcoming wintercompetitions I did get myself a M18 and on some things I was not satisfied. By chaning the upper arms and an other mounting of the shocks by the idea if PenguinRC I have created a small racing monster: New blocks for the upper arms: The rear suspension (not finished shocktower) The upper arms: Front suspension and new chassis (from plain circuit board) Motormount: Almost finished: My friend is also busy with the same kind of mods: I have now: - better camber correction in the corners (shorter upper wishbone) - full adjustable camber - full adjustabel caster - full adjustabel wheelbase +/- 2mm -> 148-152mm - adjustable ride hight by spacing the shocktowers - better weight balance in the car - very stif chassis - Active rear end steering (toe-in correction in the corners) |

Well, congratulations ![]() ![]() ![]() A good piece of modelling job ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() P.S. shaft driven cars will always have problems with either side-balance (when the motor is on the side of the shaft) or CG (when you put it above the shaft), perhaps somebody will sometime build a model with center-located motor laying on the "floor" and the shaft above it?, this should solve the problem of both side-balance and CG, but this would force the diffs to be moved up, but perhaps this problem will find its solution too? ![]() |

Updates... After 4 years of racing my front upper arms did get some play and one did fell appart so it became time to replace them. When I did create this suspension I already noticed this could be a weak construction and already had thoughts of another construction. left: old arm middle: electric part to connerct wires (do not know how to name that) right: new upper arm I did fit a brass tube into the part and fitted a M3 screw. Did solder it all together and made it to the right dimensions. I also made a few extra as spare if needed. Last race was very good but the car was a bit out of balance. I fitted some shimrings with the springs to take out the tweak: Zero tweak ! I also made some small changes to the toe-in, caster and camber because there were some differences between L and R and to create an even better steer response on our small track. And mentioned in another topic a new servo which did make a huge difference in last race: http://www.debaanbrekers.com/ftp/hs5084_servo.wmv The Hitec HS5084-MG is at this moment the fastest digital servo to get. |
