I have had the M18T kit for a month, waiting for my motor and just today my motor came in and my racing/bashing buddy picked up the M18MT kit. Over the past month I have been working on acquiring the necessary parts to convert to the MT and have everything except the tires & wheels, which I borrowed from his kit. With the original M18T body, the conversion looks amazing. The tires and especially the wheels look awsome. I can't say I am too impressed with the Cadillac body he got or the optional Hummer which I think looks pathetic. My set-up is as follows; - M18T - Alu cvd's - Alu towers - front & back (along with the original composites) - Alu motor mount - Mamba 6800 motor & Mamba 25 esc - Multiplex Digi-4 Polo servo (thanks again Mini_Me) - 6 cell 1100 mah packs (soon to be lipo) - 10 tooth pinion (original composite although I have a full set of trinity high-torque pinions which are not as smooth running as the originals) Some Comments. I had posted previously about the problems I was having with the Hitech 81mg that I originally installed that had wandering/glitching problems. They are all gone now with the Digi-4 Polo. Superior servo albeit more expensive - 2x more, but you get what you pay for. It fits right in except that I had to trim the servo ear, by the drive shaft, to prevent it from rubbing. The truck handles very well and the speed/torque from the Mamba is perfect for the conversion. I have read and seen the Losi and AE vehicles with the same motor and they have been over-powered and difficult to control. The Xray has no problems with the excess power because of the superior drive train and steering geometry. There are however a couple of problems I encountered. With the monster tires, if you turn fully, either R or L the tires will scrub up against the chassis. I had to adjust the EPA and back off almost 2-3 mm from the lower arm (the max steering angle) to prevent this. This of course reduces the steering capabilities - although still superior to the RC18T that I have. On a LH turn, the steering arm comes right up against the servo horn/arm. Enough so that it moves the lower arm visibly forward. This might just be an issue with the Digi Polo servo and the fix was simple - I trimmed a little over 1mm off the servo mounts, moving the servo back and providing adequate clearance. The monster tires on the grass with the power of the Mamba is amazing - just wants to go and the stability of the truck was perfect. Like a flying pancake!! I put on the original mini-pin tires for a road test, a wet road at that, and they were incredible, again I believe due to the superior handling dynamics and set-up of the Xray truck. I will give further updates when the lipo's come in (PS-the new Apogee 1500 20C packs - 31x102x16 - will fit in the stock chassis although it requires a modified battery post for the furthest front position). The battery post from the graphite conversion kit would work perfectly - when's it coming Xray!! Cambridgenorth |
