We run very similar rules here, but since we allow any micro our rules allow the hpi or the xray motors, some of us have had reliablity issues with the xray motors due to overheating, but find either motor about the same in terms of speed.

I dunno what cells u are using but we find that by far the best cells to run are GP1100(GoldenPeak). They things are able to take 10amp discharge rates.

The sweet ratio we find is to run the 19tooth with the option spur(cannot recall its size) We run a fairly small track running 8second laps.

Running front diffs in the front and the rear i found helped with cornering speed. (front kit gear diffs)

try running the kan 650 cells. our stock class allows 6 cells. you will get rid of some weight and they have more punch than those gp1100 which I have tried. The 650 cells last a 10 min main too. My times are way faster, 1-2 sec a lap. I race @ Hobbytown and currently in first place in our point series. I also have the gear diff w/pin in rear [free spinning] and the gear diff w/screw up front slightly tightend. As for the motors, I run the orion stock with a heat sink motor mount and a fan to keep it cool. After a 10 min main, my motor was 86 degrees, the second place car was 192. I would suggest the orion stock I am running on the same motor since October and we race every weekend 3 5 min qualifiers and 1 10 min main. Last but not least, I don't know how stock you have to keep the cars, I would go with a novak spy esc or lrp quantium sport. Those esc's from xray are okay but go on the blink sometime, after a hit or a motor heating up. I hope this helps. My setups are @ http://www.one18th.com/3686Gallery.htm

Hey,

You can try water dipping the motors. This will give the motor more efficencey, so it will run cooler , faster, make less vibration, and more RPMs.
Its done witha brand new stock motor, plug it to 5 cells, dip it ina cup of water running and for about 17 seconds, then ull see residue coming out,[thats brush ] tahts good sign, teh brushes are breaking in to teh comm.
Unplug, get motor spray, and hose out all teh water, let it dry and tehn lube the bushings. This is what i do in all teh stock races. my stock motors have been lasting for over a year ! some since i had my HPI kit. Any questions let me know !
