Hi I need some help on gear ratios. I am running a 21.5t motor(Thunder Power) with a 2 cell shorty. I put an 80t spur to a 30t pinion (64dp 2.666) on carpet I ran the car for the first time last night at the Stafford club and the motor got so hot that I think it has melted, it's dead anyway ![]() The gear mesh was fine and everything was free running. I have obviously got something wrong big time. I have looked online and people are saying that they are running similar ratios HELP ![]() |

Hi Mike, we normally run between 2.4 and 2.6 indoor with our 21.5 Motors so you dont make something wrong. Do you use maybe to much timing ? Or try another brand to check the temperature ? Maybe there was the problem. greetings Jan |

Hi, thanks for the reply. Strange as this is around the ratio i'm running! I'm running very little timing on the motor and blinky on the ESC. I have put another motor in so will try again tonight. Some drivers say to run 3.2:1 and 2.6 is way to high? Getting confused, could always be a duff motor! |

Hi MikeD, i have asked same Q? ...but depends from the track. I had been runing the 2.6-2.7 ratio and found the motor getting hot (xray x1 /lrp x20 21.5/HW stock 60A/2s shorty / RIDE XR / http://www.genius-racing.com/pista-indoor.html). In the end I have found/have been recommended for this setup the best GR 2.9-3.1. The temps are fine and the car goes for me. In and from the cornes is more quick. Lap times are better. ....just my 2cent advice ![]() Jurij |
